Francoise Janicot (1929 - 2017) was a French painter, photographer, performance artist, sound poet and feminist artist. Recurring themes in her work are the hidden and the visible (such as the dessins cachés), and 'Enconnages', wrappings covering and uncovering the body, alluding to confinement of women and their self-liberation. In the 1970s the Belgian publisher and gallerist Guy Schraenen produced several Janicot projects, including exhibitions, artists' books (including an innovative Xerox book), and the film 'Enconnages' (1975) featuring a performance by Janicot and sound scapes by her husband Bernard Heidsieck.
