[Belgium. East Flanders] Archive containing ca. 450 manuscript documents of the late 16th - end 19th cent.
Mostly manuscripts or printed documents filled-out in pen on paper (a few on vellum), many w. paper seals, (tax) stamps and signatures, incl. (extensive) bound volumes and documents attached w. threads, var. sizes. For the greater part concerning notarial and other mainly financial documents such as cash registers, quittances, debts, inheritances, purchase receipts, minutes of meetings, reminders, extracts, contributions, manuscripts on almonership and tax forms - but also including personal letters, two manuscript maps and a few pedigrees.
Interesting, extensive archive mostly spanning the 18th century but incl. a number of late 16th cent. documents and many 17th cent. pieces, mainly concerning Meerendré (incl. "Bestier over den armen dezer commune van Meerendré", 1817-1824, ca. 200 p.), Deinze, Gent (incl. "Enqueste ende besoeck van oorconden gedaen ende gehouden binnen de stadt Ghendt den 5e. July 1773", ca. 300 p.)", Département de 'Escaut, Lampernisse, Veure, Isenghien, Hansbeke, Nevele and Thielt. Some family names that frequently reoccur: De Paape, Van Quickenborne, De Vreese, Vander Stadt, Van de Velde and king Willem Frederik of Orange-Nassau. Interesting, though less frequently mentioned, names are Marguerite Isabelle de Mérode Comtesse de Middelbourg (1591-1679), Comtesse d'Isenghien and Nicolas de Montmorency (1556-1617).
