Almost the entire first edition (1904), was purchased and then destroyed by De Haan's lover Arnold Aletrino, who recognised himself in one of the main characters. For this rare second edition, De Haan made only minor revisions. With advertisement for his next novel Pathologieën (1908) which deals with homosexual and sadomasochistic themes. (2) M.H. van Campen.
