[Japan] Two so-called "Yosegaki Hinomaru" Japanese flags
Good luck flags, silk, 72 x 105 cm and 86 x 82 cm. Both w. 2 strengthened corners w. attached cords; the large flag w. num. calligraphed good luck wishes, the other with a few wishes and stamps in red. Both w. folds, sm. holes and sl. stained. Fine examples of this specific type of flag, given to Japanese soldiers such as kamikaze-pilots especially during World War II. These flags were typically signed by friends and family members, often bearing messages of courage and self-sacrifice.
