10 vols., 8vo., uniformly bound, half-leather, green, red and gilt-stamped title on spine, incl. 43 maps and other plates in copper engraving, most of which folding. Bindings rubbed, but good inside. In 1788, Jean Jacques Barthelemy (1716-1795) published the travels of Anacharsis the Younger in Greece, an imaginary travel journal. The publication had a huge effect on the rise of Philhellenism in France in that period. The book was reprinted many times and translated into various languages.
