Noted by the Utrecht Archives: illustration of the flag of the Stedelijke Schutterij of Utrecht :Hand-coloured plate (litho) by Houtman from a series of 24 plates with military uniforms worn during the Belgian rebellion. J.P Houtman was a lithogrpaher working in Utrecht from ca. 1830. In the catalogue published on the occasion of the special exposition of the Army Museum in 1960, an index was included of artists whose works were part of the exposition. For Houtman it contains the note: Lithographer of the large series of small, coloured uniform plates from 1830-1841. Work without claims to artistry, stiff and clumsy imitation of, among others, Van Hove; in spite of that of great documentary importance. Full series. Very rare.
