Pour les dix-sept provinces des Pais-Bas. Avec la Description Geographique & une Table, pour trouver facilement les Villes, &c. Amsterdam, Covens & Mortier, n.d. (ca. 1740), (2),23,(1);40;8 p., with double-page engraved title page "Le téâtre de la Guerre (...)", else with 6 double-page engraved maps lettered A-F and 29 double-page engraved maps numbered 1-29, finally with 2 single-page engraved plates with scales, all maps and scales in fine antique hand-colouring, contemporary sheepskin with pocket on inside of both boards, neat cover tab with remains of tie, spine with paper title shield.
Very good and attractively bound copy with some traces of use. Maps with contemporary letters or numbers in pen on verso and in margins on recto.
Very rare edition of the Sanson pocket atlas, no copies in PiCarta! We only found a copy with the same titles (both the engraved and the letterpress title) and collation in a Swiss library. Pieter Mortier had already published a series of Sanson pocket atlases around 1700, including a volume about the Netherlands. Our virtually unknown reissue with newly added title contains besides the maps (map F not included in the binder's index) a generally descriptive volume closing with a list of other atlases sold by P. Mortier. Also with extensive indices by place at the end.
