Door George Staunton. Uit het Engelsch. Met plaaten en kaarten. Amsterdam, J. Allart, 1798-1801, 7 volumes, with 40 (of 46) (large)(folding) engraved maps and plates (incl. 2 stipple-engraved portraits), contemporary uniform marbled half leather, gilt backs with morocco title shields.

The less important plates 19, 20, 21, 27, 39 and 40 not included, as are text pages 39-42 in volume 6 and the half title and plate index of volume 2. Here and there tanned/foxed. The first Dutch edition, after the English edition which appeared in 1797, of this account of the British diplomatical voyage led by Macartney. Although an incomplete copy, the most important (large) maps and plates are still included, such as maps of the sea voyage from England to China, St. Paul Island, part of the coast of Cochinchina, the journey from Turon Bay in Cochinchina to the mouth of the Pei Ho River, the island south of Chu San on the Chinese east coat, the course of the Pei Ho or White River, various travel maps of the British embassy, the city and port of Macao, etc.
