A visit to the Indian Archipelago, in H.M. Ship Maeander

With portions of the private journal of sir James Brooke, K.C.B. By Captn. the Hon. Henry Keppel. New Edition. Londen, Richard Bentley, 1853, XVII,(3),586,(2) p., with large folding lithographed map loose in back pocket and with 8 tinted lithos after O.W. Brierley, original blind-stamped and gilt cloth, 4to.

Inside sl. foxed, ex libris on inside front cover. Binding sl. worn and stained, hinges on inside loose. An acceptable copy. This new edition is less current than the first edition, which appeared in the same year. The ship Maeander was selected to bring the sick Governor Brooke to Labuan. After its visit to Labuan, the ship continued its journey to Hong Kong and from there back to Sarawak and Borneo. The book contains the account of Brooke's Sarawak expedition from 1838 to 1842, after which the Sultan of Brunei rewarded him with the title Raja of Sarawak.
