[Album Amicorum. Leiden] "W.B. Donker Curtius 1796"

Album amicorum with 39 handwritten contributions in pen, mostly dated Leiden 1796-1798 (one separately included contribution dated 1811) and ca. 85 unwritten pages, fine binding by the "Paupers Orphanage Bindery" (Leiden, 1787-1808) in contemporary gilt red morocco with name and year on front cover, all edges gilt, oblong 8vo (12.3 x 19.5 cm.) (traces of carelessly produced rubbing on front cover).

Finely bound album, in which a large part of the contributions is equipped with a pentagram, untraced by us, surrounded by the letters F., L., F., S., A. and Ph. and several with a triangle with the words La Vertue (inside the triangle) and Sans Autre Guide or other text (along the sides), possibly symbols of Leiden freemasons' lodges.
