Lovely set of this classic on Dutch proverbs. The first volume with signature for approbation in pen by the author on reverse of title page, with his disapproval in letterpress of the publication of poor pirated editions. The first edition of vol. 1 appeared in 1720. The added titles in the second volume treat weather forecasts (incl. superstitious/ incorrect forecasts and an appendix on thermometers and barometers, 54,16,10 p.) and "voorschriften om de gezondheid te bewaren" (School van Salerno, 66 p.). With 1 more: (2) Lovely convolute with rare, illustrated issues numbered "Spreekw. 1" up to and including "Spreekw. 12" with proverbs from the Prent-Magazijn, 2nd-4th year (probably Leiden, c. 1840).
