Filipp Andreevich Malyavin (1869-1940). 4 photo albums: (1-2) "Philippe Maliavine.

Mostra Personale 21 Novembre - 5 Dicembre 1931 Milano." (title on albums). Series of 91 b/w photos of works by Malyavin, each ± 16 x 22 cm., pasted in 2 uniform, blindstamped, gilt-lettered and cordbound albums, with address Studio Fotografico Giovanni Recchia Milano on label on reverse of the first album leaf, oblong folio (24.5 x 31 cm).

Extensive documentation in photos, apparently of the paintings and drawings exhibited at the aforementioned exhibition in Milan. The Russian-born artist Malyavin (known under various versions of this name) mostly painted the sunnier side of peasant life, in the form of laughing women in traditional costume. The new Soviet regime had a deeply anti-religious attitude, which must have greatly contributed to the departure of the deeply religious Malyavin to Nice, shortly after 1922. He worked and lived there until his death. With: (3-4): Two similar (slightly worn) albums of the same size and with the same address of the photographer on label on the inside: 1x of a solo exhibition from 5 to 19 February 1929 (title in Italian on front board), with 64 photos (contents tender) and 1x with only the name of the artist on the front board, with 92 photos mostly also appearing in the other albums (contents partly tender). In one of the albums a bifolium with Russian text signed by 8 persons and dated 18/V 39. Together with the luxurious finishing, this raises the possibility that these concern albums from the personal possessions of the artist. (total 4)
