This caricature depicts the protestant fear of losing the University of Utrecht, historically the stronghold of orthodox protestants, to the catholics. Directed at the restoration of episcopal hierarchy in the Netherlands following the constitution of 1848. Bottom centre Thorbecke depicted as a beetle. Caption by Vondel.
