Avec d'excellentes figures en taille-douce, gravées sur les dessins du fameux Mr. Romain de Hooghe (by Vianen and Scherm), & retouchées par feu B. Picart le Romain. Cologne (The Hague?), P. Gaillard, 1736, 2 vols., (32),379; (24),389 p., with engr. frontisp. by G. van der Gouwen after De Hooghe and 100 half-page engr. illustrations, contemp. unif. half calf, gilt and ribbed spine w. mor. letterpiece, sm. 8vo.
First vol. chipped at top of spine; both vols. corners bumped. A very good copy. Landwehr, Romeyn de Hooghe as book illustrator 94. The first edition with the very nice (partly erotic) illustrations of Romeyn de Hooghe, was published with the same address in 1701. The work consists of a series of originally narrated humorous short stories, collected by the French courtier, educator an writer Antoine de La Salle (ca. 1385-1460). It was first published in 1486 but apparently already presented in manuscript to the Duke of Burgundy at Dijon in 1462.
