[Militaria] Mémoires de Monsieur Du Guay-Trouin,

Lieutenant General des Arme'es Navales (...). Amsterdam, P. Mortier, 1756, XXXIX,(9),312 p., with engraved portrait of the author, one large folding profile with ships, 3 folding engr. plates with sea battles and 1 large folding map of Rio de Janeiro and surrounding, modern cardboard, 12mo (waterstained and foxed in places).

The memoirs of René Duguay-Trouin (1673-1736) were first published in Amsterdam, 1730, by Pierre de Villepontoux, without authorisation by Duguay-Trouin, who was very unhappy with the edition. He did allow a new edition of his memoirs to appear after his death, which happened in 1740. That edition was an instant bestseller, which was reprinted often. The large ship's profile is 44 x 15 cm. The map of Rio shows the successful military expedition of Duguay-Trouin in 1711.
