[Alba amicorum. Leiden] "Album amicorum J.C. de Bruyn Mediobúrgo Zelandi", c. 1790

Manuscript album containing 116 pages (including blanks), with the aforementioned title, a full-page verse "Ad Philitecam meam. Care liber! (...)", 46 pages with contributions in pen by various contributors, mostly exactly dated Leyden, Leide, Lugduni Batavorum etc., 1789-1790 (a few up to 1792), and a 4-page musical contribution "Andantino con Variatione" by C. Vermeulen, with 2-page index of the contributors at the end, contemporary marmbled calf (perhaps by a follower of the binder Jan Dane of the Middelburg Satisfactie Bindery), both boards with central circular black letter medallion ("Album amicorum" and "Amicitiae sacrum"), gilt and ribbed spine, blue marbled edges, oblong narrow 8vo, in the original slipcase.

Binding and slipcase sl. worn along extremities, the binding with rubbed spots on covers and chipped spine ends. Many of the contributions have added a small symbol in pen, comprising 5 crossed foils and the letters "S.V.S. V.IV.", we could not trace the meaning of this symbol. Interesting album amicorum, exposing ties between many prominent students at Leiden University during their time in Leiden at the end of the 18th century. Contains contributions by e.g. J.A. Modera, Wybo van Visvliet and other members of the Van Visvliet family, M.J. Moens and other members of the Moens family, Cornelis Cromstrien Evertsen (1768-1818), H.J. Optenoort and other members of the Optenoort family, Paulus Hubert Martini Buijs (1765-1836), J.G. de Wilt Hamer, J. Kien van Citters, C.E. van Douveren and other members of the Van Douveren family, Cornelis Duvelaer van de Spiegel (1771-1829), Jacob Hendrik Onderdewijngaart (Canzius) (1771-1838), J.P. van der Staal, J.C. Markel Bouwer, J.B. Bicker and W.F. Gevers Deijnoot.
