Philip II, king of Spain (1527-1598). Letter in pen on paper 1558

Letter in French on paper with watermark cock in shield, written on one side (11 lines), dated Brussels 1 July 1558, signed "Jo el Rey" below the text and with (counter)signature of secretary Courteville, with wax seal under paper, reverse with address, 30 x 30 cm.

Previously folded for sending, several (worm)holes (all but a few small ones outside the text), left margin frayed/ damaged. Addressed "A nos chere et feaulx les deputez des quatre membres de Flandre"'. Written shortly before the death of his father Charles V (see the previous lot).
