Nicolas Jean-de-Dieu Soult (1769-1851), French general and marshal. Letter in pen 1804
Bifolium with pre-printed head filled out in pen "Empire Français Au Quartier-Général, à Boulogne, le 6 Fructidor an 12 [= 24 August 1804]. Soult, Maréchal de l'Empire (...)", addressed to "Le Monsieur le Géneral Bertrand [= Henri Gatien Bertrand, (1773-1844)] Commandant le Génie". Furthermore the letter itself in pen on two sides (26 lines), signed "Soult" on the second side bottom right, 21.8 x 18.3 cm., kept in file of manuscript trader Alain Nicolas, together with his business card and various copied documents.
Soult was 1st duke of Dalmatia and one of only 6 high-ranking French soldiers given the title Maréchal de l'Empire. He also became prime minister of France three times. Letter with orders concerning (repairs to) barracks at the "Camp de la Garde Imperial etabli au pont Debriques" [= Pont de Briques].
